Coaching FAQ

We offer professional table tennis coaching here at Green Paddle. All training will be done in a professional environment with tournament quality tables. We have 4 standard size playing courts with rubber flooring. A table tennis robot for more advance coaching. Training balls are provided for use without extra charge. Coaching schedules have to be prearranged so please register/enroll in advance. Read on for other FAQ.

Age requirements? 4 - 99. Interested parties must be at least 4 years old. We have an adjustable table that is provided especially for young children so that they can learn to hit the ball properly even with their height disadvantage.

Training Duration & Frequency? The answer to this question really depends on several things, including your level of commitment, desire to improve, amount of free time, availability of our coaches and facilities.
We would recommend at least training once a week, and playing games once a week. Playing only once a week makes it difficult to improve quickly. Two to three times a week is ideal, while 4 or 5 times a week ideal for rapid improvement.
We wouldn't recommend more than two hours for a training session - it's pretty hard to maintain concentration for much longer than this. 1 to 1-1/2 hour can work well depending on your stamina.

Type of Training Done? Improvement & progress to next level would depend largely on one's ability to learn.
For most beginners, training time would be spent mostly hitting the ball with the right form. New players need to hit a lot of balls to groove in the correct technique, so the more time you spend on the table the better. Beginners should start to learn the forehand counterhit, backhand counterhit, forehand push, backhand push, serve and serve return. Without a solid foundation in these strokes, you will struggle to make it to intermediate levels of play.

For the intermediate players, time can be devoted to some 'fun' stuff, such as learning the forehand and backhand loop stroke, lobbing and smashing. As you move up towards the intermediate level the forehand and backhand loop strokes will be trained more often.

Proper footwork during training will also be taught. Time will be alloted for Warm Up and Cool Down. Make sure that you have a warm up period before beginning training, to give your body a chance to prepare itself for the effort involved. Once you have finished training, a cool down period will allow your body to return to rest gradually, and help keep you from aching the next day.

Kinds of Coaching Classes? We cater to all levels of skills, from beginners to advance players. We accept private one-on-one coaching for beginners, intermediate, & advance. Group coaching can also be pre-arranged.
